Role Description:
The Configuration Architect ensures that configuration management processes and associated systems are designed and maintained to support scalability, consistency, and efficiency across all domains, leveraging best practices in automation and configuration as code. I
This is a pivotal role in aligning technical strategies with business objectives and ensuring the successful implementation and maintenance of the global configuration management service in collaboration with other teams, subject matter experts.
This role is to review and build upon activities currently in progress to produce standardised configurations for our software solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Design and Oversight
- Develop and maintain the architecture for configuration management services globally.
- Define and enforce standards, best practices and guidelines for configuration management across all domains.
- Ensures the architecture and standards support automation and configuration as code practices
- Integration and Collaboration
- Work closely with leadership, Domain Leads/Experts and Automation Engineers to ensure seamless integration of configuration items into the configuration catalogue and for the creation and maintenance of scripts to support automation.
- Collaborate with the Catalogue Management Team to ensure the Configuration Catalogue’s design and structure meets organisational needs.
- Liaise with Product Development and Quality Assurance teams to ensure new features and updates are smoothly incorporated into the Configuration Management architecture and systems.
- Innovation and Management
- Continuously evaluate and incorporate new technologies, tools and methodologies to enhance the configuration management Services.
- Drive the adoption of advanced configuration management practices, such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Continuous Configuration Automation (CCA).
- Lead initiatives to improve system performance, scalability and security.
- Governance and Compliance
- Ensure the configuration management service and systems comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements and security policies.
- Establish governance frameworks to maintain consistency and quality across all configurations featured in the Configuration Catalogue.
- Documentation and Training
- Develop comprehensive documentation for the configuration architecture, including design principles, standards and best practices
- Provide training and guidance to domain teams and other stakeholders on the configuration management Service, system/s and its components.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Technical Expertise
- Deep knowledge of configuration management tools and platforms
- Proficiency in automation and scripting languages
- Strong understanding of cloud computing platforms and Infrastructure as Code principles
- Strategic Thinking
- Ability to design and implement scalable, robust configuration management architectures
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to foresee and mitigate potential issues
- Leadership and Collaboration
- Excellent leadership and communication skills to influence and guide domain teams and other stakeholders across the globe.
- Experience working in a collaborative, cross functional environment preferably with projects run in US, UKI, EU and Australia.
- Industry Knowledge
- Understanding of industry standards, regulatory requirements and best practices related to configuration management and automation
- Knowledge of the healthcare and environmental sciences sectors is a plus.
