Senior Database Administrator

Purpose:
As a Senior Database Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of complex database systems. This includes ensuring data integrity, security, performance, and availability, leading projects, mentoring junior DBAs, and making strategic decisions regarding database architecture and infrastructure within Clinisys. You will work closely with data architects, software architects, software engineers, and other business stakeholders to ensure that our database designs employ best practices of schema design and optimization in the context of each product application.
This role requires a proactive and resourceful individual with a solid understanding of database and schema design, performance tuning, production application development, and cloud architecture.
Essential Functions / Job Responsibilities:
Administer, maintain, and enhance database systems supporting SaaS applications.
• Ensure high availability, performance, and security of database environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues across multiple platforms, including Oracle, SQL Server, and Sybase, ensuring minimal downtime and quick resolution.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, deadlocks, and query execution issues.
• Diagnose issues related to replication, data corruption, and storage optimization.
• Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and methodologies to uncover root causes.
• Develop and execute comprehensive backup and recovery strategies.
• Collaborate with software development teams to integrate database solutions with applications.
• Monitor database performance and implement improvements as needed.
• Manage database access, roles and security policies.
• Stay up to date with the latest cloud-managed database technologies and best practices.
Skills needed to be successful:
Proven experience as a Database Administrator or Engineer, with a focus on Oracle databases, schema design, and product development
• Experience with monitoring with Oracle Enterprise Manager
• Experience with DataGuard and Oracle DR/BC configuration
• Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases
• Experience with healthcare and/or laboratory software is highly desired
• Ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA) and industry standards
• Experience with cloud database platforms; Azure managed database experience is highly desired • Experience in implementing high-availability solutions such as clustering, mirroring, and replication
• Experience with high traffic and highly available website architectures and operations
• Knowledge and experience preferred with AI-driven development and automation tools such as GitHub Copilot, Copilot Studio, and related platforms to optimize database administration tasks, implement intelligent query tuning, and enhance operational efficiency. Demonstrated understanding of AI concepts including Model Context Protocol (MCP), Prompt Engineering, and integration of AI-assisted workflows into DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
Required Experience & Education:
· Bachelor's degree in business or computer science, or equivalent education and work experience combined.
· Minimum 5 to 7 years of Oracle database administration and Oracle Data Guard experience.
· Familiarity with database monitoring tools and automation techniques for proactive issue resolution.
· Strong understanding of software product development and related processes
· Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
· Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Experience & Education:
· Database certification(s) preferred.
· Prior experience with server class hardware, operating systems, and virtualization.
